Jeffrey Gersick, Managing Director, an attorney from San Francisco, California, was appointed by Governor Gray Davis on 28 January 2000 to serve in the capacity of Managing Director of the Europe, Middle East, and Africa International Trade and Investment offices for the California Trade and Commerce Agency.

Prior to his appointment, Mr. Gersick was the Executive Director for the State Bar of California, an agency performing regulatory, consumer education and member service functions for the legal profession and the largest mandatory bar in the world. From 1990-1999, Mr. Gersick served as the Senior Executive for Policy with the State Bar of California, and prior to this, was the Director of Bar Relations for four years.

From 1981-1984, Mr. Gersick was stationed in South Africa as a Foreign Service Officer with the United States Information Service, assigned to both the American Embassy in Pretoria and the Consulate in Johannesburg. In that capacity, he was primary cultural and academic liaison to the Black and Asian communities of Johannesburg, performed press and media relations duties and helped to design strategies to implement Congressionally funded community support projects, teacher training initiatives and the Fulbright scholarship program.

Mr. Gersick earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Yale University, a Master of Arts Degree from Occidental College, and a Juris Doctorate degree from Hastings College of Law.

 

 

Michelle Denton, Business Development

 

Maria Corts, Business Development, joined the California Technology, Trade & Commerce Agency on the 20th February 2001 to serve as a business development specialist for the biotechnology, aerospace, food and agricultural industries.

Prior to joining CTTCA, she worked for 5 years as Export Manager at FECUREX, the Trade Association of Leather Manufacturers in Spain. During this period she was responsible for the overseas promotion of the Spanish Leather industries, carrying out the development of an annual promotion plan for the sector' overseas foreign trade including organisation of international trade shows, business missions and promotional campaigns.

From 1994-1995, she worked at the External Affairs Division of IMPIVA, Generalitat Valenciana, local government of Valencia, Spain. During this period she assisted in the management of E.U. Programs for technology and business cooperation aimed at developing new business opportunities for the small and medium sized local industries.

Maria Corts holds a law degree and a Master's degree in International Business Management both earned at the University of Valencia, Spain
