BENEFITS OF EXPORTING

California is the number one trading state in the nation, accounting for approximately 16% of all U.S. Exports. In 1999, California exported over $107 billion in manufactured products and $45 billion in services. Overall, international trade and investment now supports one in seven California jobs.

Exports. generate concrete benefits for both businesses and workers. According to a study prepared for the National Association of Manufacturers by the Institute of International Economics:

  • Workers at exporting companies earn 15% more than workers in non-exporting companies;
  • Worker benefits are one-third higher at exporting firms than at non-exporting firms;
  • Workers at exporting plants enjoy greater job stability;
  • Employment, output and productivity growth are 3-11% higher at exporting plants than at non-exporting plants;
  • Exporting plants are 30-50% more productive than non-exporting plants;
  • The failure rate for firms that export is one-third less than for firms that do not export;
  • Sales per employee are 150% higher at firms that export than at non-exporting firms.

Exports. are a key contributor to California's growth. The Association of Bay Area Governments, cites foreign trade as one of the prime factors behind the region's strong employment growth. For the state as a whole, the Centre for the Continuing Study of the California Economy identifies trade as one of four key sectors propelling California's economic comeback. The Franklin California Tax-Free Income Fund states "Exports are one of the truly bright spots in the state's economic picture."

As the fifth largest and one of the most diverse economies in the world, California can be a one stop source for your business needs.
